Network Toolkit
Privacy Policy
Network Toolkit is built on a clear principle: what happens on your network stays on your network. All scans and diagnostic utilities run entirely on your iPhone. There is no middleman server, no telemetry, and nothing is collected by us.
Information we collect
None. Network Toolkit has no user accounts, no login screens, and no analytics or tracking frameworks. We do not track you across apps or websites, and we cannot see your network topology, discovered devices, IP addresses, or diagnostic logs.
What stays on your iPhone
When you scan a network, Network Toolkit stores discovered hostnames, IP and MAC addresses, device labels, and pin statuses in local storage on your iPhone. This allows the app to show your device history and recognize previously seen hardware when you reconnect to a network.
SSH private keys and server credentials created or saved in the app are stored exclusively in the secure iOS Keychain and marked for this device only. They are never synced to iCloud Keychain and are never included in unencrypted backups.
Network access and permissions
To perform its work, Network Toolkit asks for iOS Local Network permission. This is used solely to send local discovery probes (ARP, mDNS, Bonjour, UPnP, and ICMP) on your Wi-Fi or local subnet. None of this discovery traffic is transmitted outside your local area network.
When you explicitly run an online diagnostic tool:
- Internet Speed Test: Connects directly to open Measurement Lab (NDT7) servers. Results are processed in real time and are not collected by Carmel App Studio.
- DNS & Whois: Queries are sent directly to the destination DNS nameservers or public Whois registries you select.
- Vendor & Location Lookups: MAC vendor resolution and IP geographic/ASN information use embedded, on-device databases (IEEE OUI registries and DB-IP Lite). Lookups happen locally on your phone without remote API calls.
Crash and diagnostic reports
If you have enabled “Share with App Developers” in iOS system settings, Apple may provide us with aggregated, anonymised crash logs. These contain no network addresses, device hostnames, scan results, or credentials.
Removing your data
In the app, Settings → Forget Known Devices permanently wipes all saved device names, pins, and scan history across all networks. Deleting the app removes all locally stored app databases. SSH keys can be removed individually within the SSH tool.
Children
Network Toolkit is a technical diagnostic tool and is not directed to children under 13. We do not collect information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date above. Material changes will be noted in the app release notes.
